I mean unless you want to use the base class to level but the base class is a different playstyle then the elite ones anyway, but it's your choice to play how you want The base class can be fun before 80, it's just different, and before the level 80 expansions the content isn't too difficult, so should be okay if you want to

All classes are worth playing. Rev has builds for two of it's elite specs that let it slot into any PvE endgame content (Quickness Herald and Alacrity Renegade), and all three of it's elite specs are pretty good for open world and just generally messing around with in WvW and PvP.
So I recently gained my 80 boost when I purchased the expansion. I've played a Necro to level 30 and my Guardian is currently 40 but I still don't know what class is for me and would love to get an idea.
The Ranger I boosted to level 80 using the boost included with the purchased game bundle (to avoid seeing my pet take the hits for me, can't stand that, want to play as a Soulbeast ASAP) can't do that - the spec just doesn't appear in the choice window of the build screen. Like yourself, I think most players will feel the 80 boost is pointless at any price point. Even without tomes or scrolls, leveling in GW2 is easy enough. Link to comment
To unlock elite specs, u need to complete all other specializations first. All the HPs awarded by leveling exactly can complete all specs except for elites. U have to go n get HP for ur elites. L80 boost only awards u the remaining HP u can get from levelling ur current toon. If u r at l79 and use boost, u only get 1Level worth of HP.

The level 80 boost is either to see if the profession you play is to your liking at max level or to skip ahead if you don't want to level that character which is mostly used on not your first character. Everything else still has to be done on the character itself. You have to do the Hero challenges, Hearts, PoIs, Vistas, Events, Waypoints etc
